Cameron Barclay Case Studies - Höganäs
Höganäs AB is the world’s largest manufacturer of iron powders and is named after the town on the south west coast of Sweden where it originated. In 1972 the process of producing high specification metal powders that can be pressed into a shape and set in a furnace for use mainly in the automotive industry was developed and the Tonbridge factory is one of only a handful in the world who have this capability. www.hoganas.com
In the summer of 2003 Höganäs invited 4 companies to tender for what was to be a major refurbishment of the Tonbridge factory. The resulting responses were not convincing and a further year went by while deliberating and arranging a lease extension. During this time, Höganäs were introduced to Cameron Barclay whose initial impression was very positive. Peter Benning, Cameron Barclay’s Project Director "exuded confidence with his knowledge and ability to identify and implement solutions. Furthermore, he was amenable to change, which helps with major projects involving the renovation of the building fabric and groundwork".
The lease extension and budget approval was gained and work started in November 2004. Cameron Barclay refurbished part of the factory, all of the office areas and constructed a new laboratory, which involved the supply and fitting of a new sewage pumping station, re-roofing, re-cladding, curtain walling, underpinning, new windows, damp proofing and asbestos disposal. The interior required custom made staircases, flooring, kitchen and toilet facilities, partitioning, electrical, data, air-conditioning, lighting and furniture, including a bespoke reception counter. An area of the factory was decommissioned to facilitate the installation of a new 2 story Mezzanine construction to house a changing and locker room, and washing facilities on the ground floor level and a fully functional works canteen and eating area on the upper level. The project was finished and signed off in October 2005.

"I was extremely impressed with the attention to detail and flexibility of the Cameron Barclay team. Project Management was excellent and informative, helped by weekly project review meetings and although I was confident that Cameron Barclay would meet the expected specifications, I was delighted that they constantly exceeded them. I was very impressed with the Health and Safety measures and the method statements and planning administration was faultless.
The completed project was very successful in providing a catalyst that re-motivated the entire workforce and I would not hesitate to appoint Cameron Barclay again for any future projects."
