Operating Systems Migration

Is your operating system supported, incompatibale with new equipment or simply running slowly? If so, Principal Operating Systems Migration can help.

There are several reasons for companies to consider a complete operating system migration, including:

Lack of support

Microsoft NT, for example, whilst once the de facto backbone of many corporate systems, is no longer supported, and therefore the writing is on the wall for any company using NT. It is essential to consider an OS upgrade before a crisis develops!

Hardware incompatibility

You may find that new modern equipment is not supported on your older operating system. The prevalence of Windows Server 2003, for example, has made many equipment manufacturers ignore older operating systems such as NT or Novell entirely- so that new printers, storage devices and other networked appliances either won’t work on your old system, or require too much costly maintenance.

A crisis

The shortcomings of older systems might simply have come to a head, with slow speeds affecting productivity or infrastructure problems affecting your ability to do your job.

If any of these apply to you, it’s time to consider upgrading the operating system of your network. This will bring not only a solution to your problems, but added benefits too:

More effective support

Irrespective of the price of repairs, the real value of support is getting your network up-and-running again as soon as possible. Newer operating systems offer much improved diagnostics, allowing us in many cases to resolve issues remotely. Often the cost of upgrade is repaid many times over in saved downtime and associated support expenditure.

More upgrade options

If you’re used to a standard network, that’s fine. But if you haven’t upgraded your systems in three years or more, you’ll be pleased to know there are a wealth of new workflow solutions at your disposal should you choose to upgrade. You might, for example consider moving to a server-based office solution, where all workflow is centrally managed, meaning all staff activity is carefully managed, dramatically reducing future IT problems.

Managing a full operating system migration takes careful planning, and at Principal we are fully prepared to do the job properly:

  • We will run through your exact requirements, to bring you a solution that is tailored to your business’ current and future needs.
  • We will offer advice on additional services which might be appropriate, whilst protecting you from overspend on tools you don’t need- always focused on getting a good return-on-investment across the life-cycle of the hardware.
  • We will produce a project plan, identifying what is required in hardware and on-site work.
  • We will do what we can to minimise disruption to your day-to-day workflow.
  • We can provide training if necessary to your workforce or in-house IT staff.
  • And moving forward, we can of course deliver top-notch support packages, so you shouldn’t face a crisis again!

Windows Server 2003Notes for users of older operating systems

If you currently have an older operating system such as Novell or NT, you should seriously consider upgrading, because system architectures have moved on significantly. You will get the benefit of several improvements, for example:

  • Microsoft’s Active Directory service, the foundation for all Microsoft’s future OS development
  • Support that is no longer available on NT
  • Better security, taking account of all modern threats to legacy systems
  • Improved flexibility in implementation

All these can affect your bottom line in a positive way, and we have consultants who specialise in both migrating your technology and ensuring your staff are taken care of, too.
