Facts about our 0870, 0845 and 0333 numbers...

Principal set up our 0845 and 0870 numbers as a means by which we could ensure that we can automatically divert calls to any of our regional offices ensuring we are always able to meet and exceed our Customers expectations in terms of answer times and to ensure that we have resilience in our service delivery systems; unfortunately some carriers abused this situation by charging their customers higher than national rates to make calls to 0870 numbers and in addition, some companies also received a share of an increased call revenue.

Principal has NEVER received a penny of revenue from this situation.

OFCOM changed the rules in respect of 0870 numbers in August 2009 http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/0870calls/0870statement/ so that anybody dialling an 0870 number should pay no more than the national call rate, which in most cases will be almost the same as local call rates.

It continues to make sense for Principal to use Non Geographic Numbers (NGN) for our operations and we have decided to adopt 0333 numbers for future services that ensure that Customers will only pay a local call rate.
